Transporting an airsoft gun (Italy): rules and good habits
An airsoft gun isn't a firearm, but it looks like one. That's why Italian law asks for a reason to carry it outside your home, and common sense says never to show it in public.

What Italian law says
- Valid reason: art. 4(2) of Law 110/1975 forbids carrying outside your home, without a valid reason, items including airsoft replicas. Going to a game, a field or a technician are valid reasons.
- No licence: within 1 joule a replica is an "airsoft instrument", not a weapon; you must be at least 16 to buy one.
- Red tip: the end of the barrel must be painted red. It's a requirement for the replica, not a permit to show it.
Power limit details and legal references are in the 1 joule limit guide.
Good transport habits
- Use a closed case (bag or hard case): the gun must not be visible.
- Carry it unloaded: magazine out and, for AEGs, battery disconnected.
- In the car keep it in the boot, not on the seats.
- Bring something that shows your reason: event registration, club card or the appointment with the technician.
- Go straight to the field or technician, without long stops with the gun in the car.
In public
Never take the gun out away from the field, not even for a moment: people can't tell it's not real and may call the police. If you're stopped, stay calm, explain where you're going and show the case without sudden movements.

FAQ
Do I need a licence to transport an airsoft gun in Italy?
No licence, but the law requires a valid reason to carry it outside your home: for example going to a game, a field or a technician.
Can I keep it in the car?
While driving to the field, yes, in a closed case and out of sight. Leaving it in the car for no reason is a bad idea.
What if I show it in public?
To bystanders a replica looks like a real gun: it can cause alarm and police intervention. Never take it out away from the field.
Is the red tip enough?
The red-painted barrel is a requirement for the replica, not a permit: it doesn't change the transport rules.
